- Pond and Lake Management
Turn your back on a pond and in five minutes it has grown over into a quaking bog full of weeds! Ponds require constant management in weed control and in developing a full spectrum of flora and fauna. The farm has 17 ponds ranging from a small spring-fed woodland pond to a 1.5 hectare (3.3 acre) lake. These host a huge variety of fauna and flora. The main lake has brown and rainbow trout, nesting waterfowl, kingfishers, dabchicks, sand martins and occasional otters. The ponds have been used as demonstration sites for field-days of the Tir Gofal management scheme.
